KNL, the defence communications arm of Telenor, has inked a procurement framework with Denmark's Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO), enabling the Danish armed forces to acquire its encrypted high-frequency (HF) communication technology. The move positions Denmark as the third Nordic nation to participate in KNL's NORDEFCO framework, joining Sweden and Finland in what represents a coordinated approach to regional defence procurement.
The Nordic Defence Cooperation (NORDEFCO) mechanism underpins the arrangement, facilitating joint defence purchasing across the Nordic region. Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden all qualify for participation. To date, three orders have been announced publicly under the framework, collectively valued at approximately €23.5 million.
Dan Ouchterlony, Telenor's Head of Corporate Development Portfolio, remarked: "Sweden and Finland have already built a strong foundation for Nordic cooperation around CNHF communications, and Denmark joining the framework agreement is a natural next step in broadening that work. It reflects a genuine and growing need for secure, independent communication across the region, as Nordic countries strengthen their ability to operate together."
The Danish agreement follows KNL's decade-long NORDEFCO framework with Finnish and Swedish defence forces, which runs through 2025 to 2035 and encompasses the delivery of CNHF communication systems.
KNL Chief Executive Toni Lindén stated: "With Denmark on board, we now have agreements with three of the Nordic defence forces. It's a strong endorsement of our technology, and gives us a solid platform for further international growth. We're seeing demand for independent, robust communication solutions increase in line with global security situation. We're seeing a clear rise in demand. This agreement strengthens our position as a leading supplier of beyond line of sight connectivity."
