Orange Cyberdefense and Mistral AI have announced a collaboration to create artificial intelligence-driven security capabilities enabling organisations to identify, analyse and mitigate cyber threats at greater speed. The deal grants Orange Cyberdefense early access to Mistral Large 4, a specialised AI model built for advanced cybersecurity applications.
The two companies will begin by targeting penetration testing—a practice that uncovers vulnerabilities in computer networks—and post-incident forensics, allowing security personnel to reconstruct attack timelines and root causes. The objective centres on leveraging AI to enhance the pace of security operations while preserving human authority over critical judgements.
Mistral AI's technology will be rolled out incrementally across Orange Cyberdefense's service portfolio. The deployment will enable security teams to model additional attack vectors, examine forensic data following breaches and determine how intrusions took place. Orange Cyberdefense has committed to implementing guardrails: restricted system access, audit trails, rigorous testing protocols and human supervision, with trained specialists retaining final authority on consequential decisions.
Hugues Foulon, chief executive of Orange Cyberdefense, stated: "As threats become ever faster, industrialised and now automated, defense must operate at a different scale. Volume, speed, trust: these are the three challenges facing cybersecurity in the age of AI. With Mistral AI, we are building European cyber AI, trained by our experts and operated under their control. By combining the power of AI, the expertise of our teams and our Cyber Threat Intelligence, we are accelerating our response so that we can protect more broadly, more quickly and with trusted European technology."
Timothée Lacroix, co-founder and chief technology officer at Mistral AI, remarked: "We are proud to partner with Orange Cyberdefense, one of Europe's cybersecurity leaders, and to bring them Mistral Large 4, a model with frontier capabilities in cyber. Together, we share one goal: giving European organisations a sovereign, trusted AI solution to defend themselves, built and operated in Europe."
The collaboration emphasises European data sovereignty, with Mistral AI's infrastructure deployed on European computing resources.
