Sparkle and Hellas Sat have activated what they describe as the first quantum-safe satellite connection linking Greece and Cyprus. The infrastructure connects Sparkle's data centre in Metamorfosis, Athens, to Hellas Sat's Cyprus operations via a geostationary satellite path spanning approximately 72,000 kilometres in total distance.
The deployment follows an earlier successful trial in which the two organisations demonstrated quantum-safe IPsec connectivity between two Greek data centres. The companies have now extended this same security layer to live satellite operations.
Sparkle's Quantum Safe Interconnect (QSI) technology employs secure key delivery mechanisms and continuous encryption key rotation to safeguard sensitive data. The solution integrates with existing network and security infrastructure, enabling organisations to adopt quantum-safe protections across multiple locations without requiring wholesale replacement of current systems.
