Gaia-X Hub France has released a technical booklet titled "Digital Wallets at the Core of Trust in Data Spaces," drawing on insights from a high-level workshop convened on October 7, 2025. The document, published in the June edition of Gaia-X Magazine, brings together stakeholders to assess how identity technologies and wallet solutions can support the European data economy.
Why Digital Wallets Matter for Gaia-X
Within data space architectures, identity management and regulatory compliance form the bedrock for secure data transactions and participant autonomy. The booklet examines the shift toward Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI), a distributed approach that enables users—individuals, organisations, and connected devices—to manage their digital credentials independently, without intermediaries.
From Theory to Large-Scale Implementation
The publication connects academic concepts with practical deployment. It includes expert analysis across several dimensions:
- The SSI Revolution: A review of the movement from centralised identity systems to user-controlled models, exemplified by the TracIA initiative for dynamic consent in healthcare settings.
- Regulatory Alignment: An examination of eIDAS v2 and the European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet, which will supply the legally recognised trust infrastructure needed to expand data spaces throughout Europe.
- Industrial Use Cases: Real-world applications including Object Wallets for vehicle diagnostics, consent workflows, and transport and logistics modernisation via the My Hub Pro platform.
The booklet synthesises contributions from major industrial and research organisations including Télécom SudParis, Atos Eviden, Docaposte, Orange Business, and IN Groupe. Gaia-X Hub France operates under the coordination of Institut MinesTélécom with backing from Cigref.
