AWS intends to roll out two million additional Nvidia GPUs throughout its worldwide infrastructure during the 2027–2028 period. The move represents a substantial deepening of the long-standing collaboration between the cloud giant and Nvidia, encompassing not only graphics processors but also central processing units, networking solutions, artificial intelligence models, data management capabilities, and robotics applications.

According to both firms, the expanded GPU footprint will enable a diverse spectrum of computational tasks, spanning agentic artificial intelligence, academic research, enterprise process automation, and physical artificial intelligence systems.

The announcement follows an earlier commitment by AWS to incorporate over one million Nvidia GPUs starting in 2026. The companies attributed the need for this larger expansion to demand surpassing their initial projections.

AWS and Nvidia are also collaborating to introduce Nvidia Vera CPUs to the AWS platform. These chips are engineered to handle the computational requirements underlying AI agent operations, encompassing code execution, analytical processing, data flow management, and workflow coordination.

The partnership will additionally extend into the domain of United States government operations.

To serve federal agencies, AWS and Nvidia are establishing AI factories that will incorporate 100,000 Nvidia GPUs running on AWS systems built to accommodate extremely sensitive national-security applications.

Customers want the freedom to choose the best tools for their AI workloads, and they want confidence that everything works seamlessly together. That's why we've invested deeply with Nvidia to make AWS the best place to run Nvidia AI technologies, optimising performance across our infrastructure from networking and security to deployment. This expanded collaboration gives frontier labs, enterprises, and governments even more ways to build and deploy AI on AWS.

AWS CEO Matt Garman

Nvidia and AWS have built one of the great growth engines of the AI era, and demand is running ahead of every forecast. For 16 years, we have scaled Nvidia computing in the cloud together. Now we are expanding our partnership across the full stack- GPUs, CPUs, networking, open models and software- to make agentic and physical AI real at an unprecedented pace and scale that only AWS and Nvidia can deliver. This expansion reflects customers' demand for Nvidia's platform on AWS.
