A multibillion-dollar supply agreement between Verizon and Corning will deliver more than 80 million miles of high-density optical fibre and related connectivity infrastructure to the telecoms operator over the 2027–2032 period. The arrangement addresses dual infrastructure needs: extending broadband reach to residential and commercial customers while simultaneously constructing the long-distance backbone required to interconnect artificial intelligence data centres.

Verizon intends to leverage the fibre supply as part of a unified network architecture that merges mobile and broadband services into a single offering for consumers and enterprises. The carrier is simultaneously developing high-capacity, low-latency infrastructure tailored to the requirements of AI hyperscalers. Kyle Malady, Verizon Business CEO, stated: "Securing this volume of fibre allows us to continue building the network of the future at an unprecedented scale. We are deploying a single, converged architecture that unites mobile connectivity and broadband into one seamless experience for millions of families and businesses, while simultaneously building the high-capacity, low-latency backbone AI hyperscalers demand. With Corning as our partner, we are securing the physical foundation of America's AI economy."

The agreement supports Verizon's target of reaching between 40 million and 50 million broadband passings. Through its AI Connect strategy, Verizon is constructing high-density fibre infrastructure along major transcontinental routes to link data centres and serve major AI operators including Amazon Web Services (AWS).

This arrangement represents an expansion of a three-decade relationship between the two companies.
