Ericsson's E-Waste Management Program has enabled the collection and processing of approximately 5,000 metric tons of obsolete telecom infrastructure across Saudi Arabia. The programme handles every stage of equipment disposal, from initial gathering through decommissioning, logistics and final recycling of network systems no longer in service.
The initiative, originally launched as the Product Take-Back Program when it arrived in the Kingdom in 2008, has accelerated in recent years. During the past two years alone, the programme has recycled more than 1,160 metric tons of equipment.
Ericsson partners exclusively with licensed recyclers that meet rigorous environmental, health and safety criteria aligned with international standards. This approach ensures that recovered materials undergo responsible processing designed to maximise material recovery and minimise landfill disposal.
The programme supports Saudi Arabia's circular economy objectives and aligns with the country's broader environmental commitments under Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative.
Managing network equipment at the end of its lifecycle is an important part of reducing waste across the telecom sector. Through the Ericsson E-Waste Management Program, the recovered materials are returned to different manufacturing industries as secondary raw materials, supporting circular use of resources and reducing the need for virgin materials.
