Deutsche Telekom has announced a broad restructuring of its executive leadership, bringing in new talent across its finance, technology and digital product functions.
Dr. Christian Illek, the company's chief financial officer, will depart following the Annual General Meeting in late April 2027 due to age-related reasons. Dhananjay Mirchandani will assume the CFO role on 1 May 2027. Since joining Deutsche Telekom in 2019, Mirchandani has served as Head of Group Controlling, managing financial planning, performance metrics, cash flow and risk management. His earlier career included positions at consulting powerhouses A.T. Kearney and BCG, as well as roles at Vodafone Germany and Bernstein Research.
The company also named Jan Hofmeyr as Board Member for Product and Technology, effective 1 November 2026. Hofmeyr replaces Dr. Abdurazak (Abdu) Mudesir, who departed earlier in the year. Hofmeyr brings over three decades of experience in technology and telecommunications sectors. His most recent position was a senior leadership role at Amazon Web Services (AWS), where he oversaw cloud, networking and telecommunications initiatives. Before that, he spent more than a decade at Comcast, eventually rising to Executive Vice President and Chief Network Officer.
Mladen Mitic will take on the newly configured role of Chief Product & Digital Officer. Currently managing B2C Commercial Growth across the company's European operations, Mitic will report directly to Hofmeyr. With approximately two decades in the telecommunications industry, Mitic has held senior positions at Telenor Norway and TDC Business in Denmark, and served as Chief Commercial Officer at Slovak Telekom before joining Deutsche Telekom in 2024. He succeeds Jonathan Abrahamson, who is stepping down at his own request.
Dr. Frank Appel, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, commented on the moves: "The signal sent out by these appointments is clear: With these decisions, we are combining experience, renewal and international technological expertise. Deutsche Telekom is in an excellent position operationally and strategically. Now it is a matter of maintaining and expanding this strength with the next generation of management. That is why we have prepared the succession with great care. With these personnel decisions, we are continuing the orderly transition to the next generation of the Board of Management."
