Angola Cables has promoted Samuel Carvalho, its group chief marketing officer, to lead TelCables Europe, a subsidiary launched in October 2024. The unit provides peering, cloud services, and interconnectivity across Europe and the Mediterranean region, anchored by a presence at the SINES DC data centre in Portugal. Leveraging Angola Cables' worldwide infrastructure, TelCables Europe connects to more than 66 data centres and 400 cloud services globally, delivering low-latency and scalable connectivity.

Carvalho retains his position as chief marketing officer for the Angola Cables Group while taking on the European CEO responsibilities. In his new capacity, he will position TelCables Europe as an Atlantic gateway for backbone operators and networks seeking direct or diversified access to the United States, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.

The leadership transition coincides with Adriano Caldevilla joining Angola Cables as chief technology officer. Caldevilla brings experience from executive positions at Zoom, Globenet/Oi, Akamai, Global Crossing (Level 3), Verizon, and Orange, and will oversee the group's global technology and interconnection strategy, including operations at TelCables.

According to Carvalho, TelCables Europe will function as an "integrated neutral accelerator platform" for European carriers, content providers, and enterprise customers. The platform leverages Angola Cables' and partner subsea cable networks to deliver data centre-to-data centre and cloud-to-cloud connectivity, low-latency IP transit, and a full suite of interconnection options spanning physical infrastructure, multi-cloud, and hybrid deployments.

The TelCables Europe operation reinforces our global strategy and commitment to expanding the presence of our owned and partner submarine networks in the Atlantic, with scalable connectivity solutions and routing options to meet the growing market demand

Carvalho highlighted the competitive advantage of alternative routing pathways. "We can provide alternative routes to carry traffic from the Middle East and Africa to Europe and the US via SACS, MONET, or EllaLink without having to pass through critical points. This ensures more redundancy routing options, greater security and flexibility for our customers," he stated.

Ângelo Gama, CEO of Angola Cables Group, described Carvalho's appointment as a natural progression. "Samuel's deep understanding of the European telecommunications landscape, combined with his strategic insight and proven leadership abilities within our global operations makes him the ideal candidate to drive TelCables Europe's growth and strengthen our position as a global network operator and Atlantic connectivity leader," Gama said.
