The acquisition is anticipated to accelerate Hugging Face's growth, strengthen its technical backbone, and democratize artificial intelligence development across the globe. Over ten years, Hugging Face has emerged as a central hub where AI developers and researchers collaborate and share resources. The platform currently hosts contributions from more than 18 million users, encompassing over three million models, 500,000 datasets, and one million applications. Beyond individual developers, the platform serves more than 200,000 companies.
Nvidia has committed to preserving Hugging Face's vendor-neutral approach following the deal's completion. The platform will maintain its independence from proprietary hardware requirements, allowing developers to build and deploy applications without being locked into Nvidia's infrastructure. The company will persist in championing open-source and open-weight AI models originating from various vendors and institutions.
Nvidia President and CEO Jensen Huang underscored the strategic rationale behind the transaction. "AI advances faster when people can build together," Huang stated. He continued: "We share this vision, and the Hugging Face team will now bring their passion and expertise to a much larger canvas, with their same iconic brand. We can't wait to build the future together with you. Together, we will make AI more open, more capable and more accessible to people and institutions around the world."
Nvidia has already invested substantially in the Hugging Face ecosystem, contributing over 500 models and 250 datasets to the platform. The company believes its technological capabilities and worldwide presence position it to enhance Hugging Face's operational dependability, security measures, and deployment infrastructure for AI applications.
