Telefónica Deutschland is pursuing an expanded application of artificial intelligence across network design and service delivery, stepping beyond its conventional deployment in operational management.
In remarks to Mobile Europe for its 'OSS: Why trusted data matters as a catalyst for AI modernisation' report, sponsored by Blue Planet, Eva Ulicevic, Director of Architecture, Strategy and Technology Enablement at Telefónica Deutschland, outlined how AI could reshape the way carriers construct and operate networks, enabling faster service creation and granting technical teams greater autonomy.
We are going through a fundamental shift from AI-assisted operations to AI-assisted engineering. AI will increasingly translate business requirements into technical service designs, generate network models, validate dependencies, and prepare deployment artefacts.

According to Ulicevic, this transformation would compress the time needed to introduce new services while democratising advanced network engineering across a wider pool of technical staff, diminishing reliance on scarce specialist talent.
This will significantly shorten service introduction cycles while making advanced network engineering accessible to a much broader group of engineers, reducing dependency on highly specialised expertise.

Intent-based operations represent another dimension of this evolution, the report indicated. Rather than requiring teams to determine every technical parameter individually, they would communicate desired outcomes to the network, with AI and automation executing the necessary tasks.
Ulicevic regards this capability as central to the next generation of operations support systems, particularly as network infrastructure grows more intricate and must integrate across multiple domains.
Instead of expressing technical configurations, business teams and engineers will specify the outcomes they want to achieve. AI and automation will translate those intentions into coordinated actions across increasingly complex multi-domain networks, allowing operators to focus on business outcomes rather than implementation details.
