Nokia and MEO have deepened their working relationship by establishing a collaborative initiative centred on artificial intelligence's potential to enhance network performance. Through this expanded partnership, the two organisations are running a joint innovation programme designed to validate AI-driven solutions across operational network settings, with emphasis on network management, monitoring and optimisation.
The initiative targets practical improvements in how networks function. Specifically, the partners aim to leverage AI to enable earlier detection of network faults, forecast shifts in traffic demand and adapt swiftly to evolving network conditions. Rather than remaining confined to laboratory settings, Nokia and MEO intend to trial concrete applications that can boost operational efficiency and enhance the experience for end users.
John Harrington, Nokia Senior Vice President and Head of European Operations, framed the effort as a step forward: "Our collaboration with MEO demonstrates how AI can move beyond the experimental phase to have a tangible impact on communications networks. By working together on real-world use cases, we are exploring new ways to make networks smarter, more adaptable, and more autonomous, while delivering tangible benefits for network performance and the customer experience."
José Pedro Nascimento, MEO's Chief Technology Officer, emphasised the broader significance of the work: "Artificial Intelligence is transforming the way communications networks are designed, operated, and experienced. At MEO, we are developing the capabilities needed to turn this evolution into concrete applications, combining the expertise of our teams with the experience of leading technology partners. This program allows us to explore new ways to build smarter, more resilient, and more efficient infrastructure, creating greater value for our customers and also helping to strengthen Portugal's position in the digital economy."
