Colt Technology Services is moving ahead with a substantial capital programme to bolster its infrastructure footprint worldwide, driven by surging requirements for high-capacity connectivity tied to artificial intelligence deployment.

The investment strategy encompasses network reinforcement across North America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, coupled with fibre upgrades and fresh metropolitan coverage in multiple European cities. The company intends to boost network throughput to handle speeds reaching 400Gb, while directing resources toward US transcontinental routes and undersea cable systems linking North America to Europe and Asia.

Geographic expansion targets

On the African continent, Colt is establishing a fresh point of presence in Johannesburg. The operator is simultaneously ramping up infrastructure availability in Dubai and Türkiye as regional appetite for digital infrastructure intensifies across the Middle East region.

In Asia, the company is constructing a fibre corridor spanning over 600km linking Osaka and Fukuoka in Japan, with intentions to broaden operations across the western portions of the country.

European expansion encompasses new or enhanced presence in Warsaw, Bordeaux, Zaragoza, Berlin and Frankfurt, bringing Colt's metropolitan network count to 55 locations. The operator is also modernising the Marseille-Milan fibre route, a critical connection between two major European digital infrastructure centres.

AI readiness and ecosystem collaboration

AI readiness is about more than building capacity. It's about connecting data, cloud and compute at the scale AI demands.

Joe Scattareggia, EVP of Infrastructure and Connectivity Sales, Colt Technology Services

Scattareggia noted that as hyperscalers, neoscalers and wholesale providers prepare infrastructure for the next generation of AI applications, connectivity emerges as a decisive competitive advantage. He stressed that achieving this requires coordinated effort involving carriers, cloud operators, data centre providers and technology vendors.

By continuing to invest in our global digital infrastructure, we're bringing those ecosystems together and giving customers the reach, control and confidence they need to build, scale and grow.
