Amazon has announced plans to channel more than €16 billion ($18 billion) into Germany during 2027, with the funds directed towards artificial intelligence, cloud services, logistics operations, satellite-based internet and media content.

This latest commitment represents a continuation of the company's long-term presence in the country, where it has already deployed more than €100 billion since 2010.

Germany is a hub of innovation and one of the most attractive investment opportunities in Europe. That is why we have invested more than €100 billion here since 2010, and why we plan to invest an additional €16 billion in 2027. We want German businesses, communities, and creators to have the infrastructure and tools they need to compete and grow.

Cloud and AI expansion

The company has earmarked €4.8 billion specifically for strengthening Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud and artificial intelligence capabilities centred in Frankfurt. Additionally, Amazon plans to establish a second research facility dedicated to robotics and artificial intelligence in Berlin, which will generate positions requiring expertise in engineering and technology sectors.

Logistics and employment

Amazon intends to modernise multiple distribution facilities, including operations at Bad Hersfeld, Dortmund and Werne. New logistics infrastructure projects in Zweibrücken and Könnern are projected to generate over 3,000 employment positions.

We have already created over 40,000 permanent jobs, built more than 100 sites, and invested more than €100 billion in Germany—and we are far from done. Customers expect us to keep innovating, and that is exactly what we will do: with faster logistics, cutting-edge AI, high-speed satellite internet, and German stories that captivate Prime Video audiences around the world.

Satellite internet and connectivity

Amazon Leo, the company's satellite internet initiative, forms part of the investment strategy and aims to deliver rapid connectivity to regions currently underserved by traditional broadband infrastructure.

Infrastructure and sustainability

AWS leadership underscored the importance of dependable infrastructure for German enterprises. According to Stefan Höchbauer, VP of Global Sales for Germany and Europe Central at AWS, "In a fast-moving world, companies need infrastructure they can rely on—secure, available, and built to help them stay ahead. They need the broadest choice of services to meet their individual needs. That is exactly what AWS offers. We will keep investing so that German innovation keeps thriving. As part of the investments, €4.8 billion is planned to expand the AWS Europe (Frankfurt) Region through 2027."

The investment package incorporates measures aimed at reducing operational environmental footprint, including deployment of more efficient cooling technologies, utilisation of renewable power sources and application of artificial intelligence systems. These efforts align with Amazon's broader commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 as part of its Climate Pledge initiative.
